Potterheads prepare for the release of Harry Potter Go
The creators of the hugely successful Pokémon Go app are rumoured to be developing a Harry Potter edition of the game, currently nicknamed Harry Potter Go. The company responsible for the original game, Niantic, have supposedly been given the go-ahead for the app to be developed. Niantic’s senior developer Marcus Figueroa said the company had decided to create the game as “the demand for this title was absolutely insane, so we figured we’d give it a shot.”
Pokémon Go has had huge success since it’s release, with over 15 million users downloading and using the app since its launch. The Harry Potter series, as the most successful book series ever, will undoubtedly match this figure (and most likely beat it) if an app were to be launched. Fans have been petitioning Warner Bros and J.K. Rowling to try and get a confirmation of whether or not it’s in the pipeline.
The final Harry Potter book ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ sold 11 million copies within the first 24 hours of its release back in 2007, and in total the books have sold over 450 million copies throughout the world since 1997. These numbers only give a small insight into how huge the Harry Potter world truly is—and this is only the books! The film series is also the most successful ever, taking in almost $8 billion in the box office worldwide.
The next installment with a slightly different format, ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’, was released yesterday and already is breaking more records, with Amazon reporting it to be the most preordered book of all time. The play of the same name is currently sold out until the end of 2017.
Currently there is no release date for the Harry Potter Go game. ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child‘ is available to buy in book format now.
