12 best vegan makeup options
Every vegan makeup product you’ll ever need, from lipsticks to highlighter.
If you’re vegan, vegetarian, or you’re just the sort of person that gets bummed out when a stranger’s dog ignores you in the street, its probably time to start filling up your makeup bag with vegan-friendly products. It can be pretty confusing trying to work out exactly what goes into some products, so I’ve put together a whole collection of amazing, individual products that will have you looking 12/10 without the guilt.
1. LIME CRIME VELVETINE LIQUID MATTE LIPSTICKS
Lime Crime Velvetine liquid to matte lipsticks smell like vanilla and have amazing staying power, yet are somehow still velvety smooth so you get a completely opaque look. After visiting an all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant wearing Velvetine ‘Polly’, I can confirm this lipstick was created for messy eaters around the globe.
2. MILK MAKEUP HOLOGRAPHIC STICK

In early 2018, Milk Makeup announced that they’re going 100% vegan. They’ve always been a cruelty-free brand, and now they’re even better. Try out their best-selling Holographic Stick in Stardust (pink), Supernova (lavender,) or Mars (peach) to strobe like you’ve never strobed before.
3. KAT VON D EVERLASTING LIQUID LIPSTICK
Kat Von D is currently reformulating her entire brand to become 100% vegan (hurray!), but until that happens, she’s added a section “#veganalert” to her website containing all the products that are already completely vegan. Everlasting Liquid Lipstick gives you long lasting, pigmented wear with a matte finish.
4. STROBE COSMETICS EYESHADOW
Strobe Cosmetics is an entirely vegan brand and great value for the quality. The super-pigmented eyeshadows are easy to blend and can be purchased individually or in their amazing ‘American Horror Story’-themed palettes. Each palette has five foiled eyeshadows, with names such as ‘Bearded Lady’ and ‘Room 64’, taken from the different AHS season each palette is inspired by.
5. BEAUTYBLENDER, URBAN DECAY MAKEUP BRUSHES, AND SPECTRUM COSMETIC BRUSHES
A girl is only as good as her tools, right? When it comes to makeup application, the brushes you choose can make a world of difference, too. The original beautyblender is a sponge applicator that blends your makeup perfectly and is pretty much the holy grail of makeup applicators. Spectrum Cosmetics have a range of handmade, vegan brushes that are probably the most Instagram-worthy brushes ever to grace the internet. They come in sets, or you can purchase them individually, and the storage cases are pretty cute. Urban Decay makeup brushes are another option if you’re looking for good quality, vegan brushes.
6. ELF COSMETICS LOCK ON LINER BROW CREAM
The formula of the Lock on Liner Brow Cream is soft and creamy, with enough substance to glide on your brows precisely. This product is really easy to blend and comes in four different shades. It’s a buildable product, so you can create a natural or a dramatic look with it, and it’s super affordable at $4.
7. GEORGIE BEAUTY EYELASHES
Nothing makes your eyes pop like fake eyelashes, and no fake eyelashes quite seem to meet the standard of Georgie Beauty Eyelashes. They come in a range of different styles, from morning latte to midnight soirée. Each pair of eyelashes are handmade, weightless, and can be worn multiple times. These lashes are easy to apply and come with their own adhesive, which is also completely vegan and PETA certified.
8. KAT VON D LOCK IT FOUNDATION
This 24-hour wear, transfer-resistant foundation is buildable with exceptionally great coverage. It is pigmented enough to cover discolourations and blemishes, and it absorbs excess oil to give it a matte finish. Leaving you with smooth, hydrated skin.
9. ELF COSMETICS SHIMMERING FACIAL WHIP
These are a total steal at only $1 each and have been compared to Benefit’s High Beam Highlighter. They are creamy, easy to blend, and smell pretty incredible. This multipurpose Shimmering Facial Whip is also a liquid, so it can even be applied with your fingers.
10. KAT VON D TATTOO LINER
A liquid eyeliner with a flexible brush tip for effortless, precise application. This high-pigment, waterproof liner is currently only available in two shades, ‘Mad Max Brown’and ‘Trooper’ which is a jet black. Kat’s Tattoo Liner is a true cult product and will give you that perfect winged eyeliner look.
11. URBAN DECAY ALL NIGHT LONG SETTING SPRAY
This weightless mist setting spray keeps a full face of makeup in place for up to 14 hours, without a crease or smear, leaving your face feeling fresh. This baby actually lowers the temperature of your makeup to keep foundation, eyeshadow, blush and concealer in place even in hot and humid or cold and windy conditions.
12. LUSH COSMETICS DRY SHAMPOO
Whilst its not exactly a makeup product, dry shampoo is still product everyone should have. If you want to give your hair a break from excessive washing or just don’t have time, chuck a bit of this powder in and you’re ready to go. It blends in even with dark hair, volumizing your roots and giving it a soft, matte finish. This dry shampoo has the fresh smell of lemon, grapefruit and lime oils.
PLEASE NOTE: this information was correct at the time of publication. Companies do sometimes change their ingredients so it’s important to double check yourself before making a purchase. Whilst all the products we have mentioned here are suitable for vegans, some of the brands mentioned stock other non-vegan products and are therefore not an entirely vegan brand.
