The Halloween Animal Crossing: New Horizons update is faBOOlous
We’ve wrapped up everything there is to know about this fang-tastic update so that you can take part in all the spooktober fun!
*Spoiler Alert* This article does contain information on future events in ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’–if you have not yet played/gotten to this point and would like to keep the events a surprise based on real-time, we recommend you refrain from reading this article.
Animal Crossing has taken the world by storm, and its no surprise that the latest game to the series has been a fan-favorite. Of course, with spooky season being right around the corner, the lovely Animal Crossing team have put out a special new update that has fans screeching in excitement–and we’re here to drive you batty with all the ghoulsomely adorable new Halloween additions! So grab your candy corn and your trick-or-treating bag and let us treat you with a rundown of what the new update brings!
New Halloween Themed Skin/Eye Tones
The first new additions of the Halloween update are the new skin tones and eye color variations! Though we wish Nintendo would’ve added more inclusive skin tones and hairstyles (more curly hair, hijabs/headscarves, etc.) as well instead of just fun colors, we’re excited about these new Halloween costume possibilities nonetheless. These new colors can be bought for nook miles at the ‘Redeem Nook Miles’ section of the Nook Stop at Resident Services.
PUMPKINS (DIYS, Items, Farming, etc)
Another new feature is being able to grow pumpkins! Pumpkins come in a variety of colors including orange, yellow, green, and white. You can buy pumpkin saplings at Nook’s Cranny for 280 bells/sapling and even cheaper (140 bells/sapling) if you buy them from Leif at his stand by Resident Services. Once planted, the pumpkins take about four days to grow before you can harvest them, and you can even replant them later on. The color of the pumpkins will be random when planted. After harvesting the pumpkins, you can collect seasonal Halloween DIYs from your villagers and craft some seasonal items to display around your island. Nook’s Cranny will even sell one of the seasonal items in the little area in the corner each day–though you can only buy one of the items. If you’d like to spice the items up a bit, you can even customize them using the different colored pumpkins.

Candy
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Halloween full of treats if there wasn’t any candy to share! You can now buy a piece of candy from Nook’s Cranny for 120 bells/piece starting October 1st-31st–though just be aware you can only buy one a day (unless you visit someone else’s island and buy a piece from there) as it is a ‘popular item’ amongst your island dwellers. You can then stock up on the candy to give out to your island friends on Halloween night (5PM-12AM), but beware, if you don’t approach them with candy when asked–there may be a bit of a trick on the other side (one word: facepaint). But if you do give your lovely neighbors a Halloween treat, you’ll be rewarded with a fun pumpkin DIY or materials to craft them (depending on if you have the DIY’s or not)!
Jack’s Return
Speaking of Halloween and candy, this wouldn’t be a proper Animal Crossing game without our favorite Halloween mascot coming in to say hi. On Halloween night (5PM-12AM), Jack will pay a visit to your island and ask for some fun treats and will reward you with ‘Jack Items’ including his robe and pumpkin mask as well as some fun Halloween furniture and materials. And just like the villagers–you don’t want to get between Jack and his candy.
New Halloween Costumes
Along with some colorful new skin tones and eye colors–Able Sisters and Kicks will be selling Halloween costumes from mages dresses to imp wings to get into the Halloween spirit. Your villagers will even be dressed up in the plaza on Halloween night (5PM-12AM) joining in on the fun!
