5 free apps you need to install before starting uni

0

You’ve either clicked onto this page because you’re starting university in September, or you’ve realised too close to the end of term that shit’s getting real (I was always the latter but that’s another story).

There were a handful of apps that really helped me through my university life and now I’m going to share them with you.

1. RefME

The thing you’ll hate most about university life (apart from your dwindling bank account) is referencing is essays. This genius app allows you to scan the barcode of the book you’re skim reading to find something loosely related to your point referencing and it creates the reference for you!

2. Uber

This app can become VERY addictive when you begin to use it. If you haven’t heard of Uber, it’s a luxury budget taxi service that you link to your debit card so that a taxi can be outside your dorms at the click of a button. It’s essential for nights out and for hungover trips to McDonald’s.

3. Blackboard

Some of you won’t be needing this, but for most of you it will be a life saver. Most universities are now using Blackboard to broadcast course information and assignment results. The mobile site for Blackboard is pretty awful so it’s best to be prepared and download the app now.

4. LinkedIn

University is the first step of your professional life and every career hunter needs to be on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a great way to network without having to leave the house and go to a fancy drinks event. It’s a great way to start building a professional network which will definitely come in handy in the future.

5. Drunk Mode

I discovered this app right before I graduated and I so wish that I had access to this earlier. Drunk Mode allows you to block certain people on your phone before you go on a night out so that you can’t contact them for 12 hours. Now you won’t have to wake up with a hangover AND the added embarrassment of telling that cute guy on your course that used to date your flatmate that you fancy him (again, that’s another story).
