To celebrate the release of a highly anticipated prequel of The Maze Runner franchise from bestselling author James Dashner called The Fever Code, we explore a few of these incredible worlds. THE MAZE – THE MAZE RUNNER SERIES
In the first book of the series, the Gladers are subjected to a giant labyrinth also known as The Maze and they make it their mission to breakout. This is not so easily done though, as within the walls lurk dangerous creatures called Grievers. To make things even harder, The Maze is divided in to eight sections and at night the walls change. It is up to The Gladers to work out the pattern of the changes to form a code, which may be the key to their escape. Luckily for them there is at least a safe place to live: The Glade serves as their living space and keeps them from being trapped inside the maze. The structure is built in the bedrock underneath WICKED’s headquarters. The sun and sky are simulated making it constantly sunny. The Fever Code explores Thomas’s life before he enters The Maze.
PANEM – THE HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY
Panem is a nation established in post-apocalyptic world run by an authoritarian-totalitarian dictatorship, led by President Snow. Originally, there were thirteen districts, however, during the Dark Days, District 13 was obliterated by the Capitol. Each district serves the Capitol by providing products or services, for example, District 12 provides coal and District 4 provides fish. It is from each of the districts that two children are chosen at random to compete in The Hunger Games.
NARNIA – THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA
Narnia is a secret country that exists outside of our own world, which is accessible to a lucky few anywhere from Earth at any unexpected time. Cair Paravel is the noble castle in which High King Peter rules with his siblings, but other communities include Beruna, Beaversdam and Chippingford. The magical landscape is filled with mythical animals and even some which talk, but the guardian of Narnia is the great lion Aslan.
HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY – HARRY POTTER
Hogwarts School is located in Hogwarts Castle, a large castle somewhere in the Highlands of Scotland, with beautiful, vast grounds. Within these grounds you can find the Black Lake and the Forbidden Forest, as well as a full-size Quidditch Pitch. Hogwarts is the most notable location from the Harry Potter books, after taking the Hogwarts Express form Kings Cross, Harry finds himself at the remarkable castle where many mysteries and adventures await him. If you’re wondering how this enormous building goes unnoticed, it has numerous charms and spells on and around it that make it impossible for a Muggle to see.
POST-APOCALYPTIC CHICAGO – DIVERGENT TRILOGY
In the popular Divergent series, the world has ended and Chicago has broken off ties from the outside and erected a fence around its borders. Most of the dystopian city lies in ruins, apart from the sections which house the five factions. The factions are; Erudite, Abnegation, Amity, Candor, and Dauntless and citizens choose their factions when they reach adulthood. However, if they are not accepted in to their chosen faction they become factionless. The factionless live alone and spread across the abandoned parts of the city.
