All about My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999

Today we are here to recommend a YA romance manga which is extremely wholesome and cute — My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 by Mashiro.

The series follows Akane who got recently dumped, but just when she is about to quit the online RPG she used to play with her boyfriend, she meets Yamada in the same game. Yamada seems to be only interested in the game, but Akane slowly builds a friendship with him, and others who play in the same guild.

You don’t need to play video games to appreciate the series, and the series might even entice you to join an RPG group given how wonderful Akane’s friends from the guild turn out to be. Inklore (Penguin UK) has currently published 4 volumes in English, with the 5th one being released in March 2025. The first 4 volumes collects chapters 1-40 of the manga, while volume 5 contains chapters 41-50.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The manga series is currently in hiatus but we are hoping Mashiro would be able to release chapter 109 soon!

 

 

 

 

 

Anime

In 2023, chapters 1 – 41 of the manga (so basically volumes 1 – 4) were adapted into 13 episodes of anime. The anime is very similar to the manga, but with bonus scenes of them gaming, as well as the extended version of several scenes from the manga. There is currently no announcement of Season 2 but Season 1 did not end at a cliffhanger so we would definitely recommend watching. The show can be watched on Crunchyroll.

 

 

Live-action adaptation 

If the anime is not enough, don’t worry because there will be a live-action adaptation coming out in March 28 in Japan. We will probably need to wait a bit before we can watch it in the UK / the US but it will definitely be worth it!
