That’s right! John Green, the creative genius behind ‘The Fault in Our Stars‘ and ‘Paper Towns‘, is back after a 6 year writing hiatus.
‘Turtles All The Way Down’ promises to deliver his signature style of heart-breaking plot with the most adorable cast of characters and a shed-load of swoon-worthy and smile-inducing romance. Also, like previous releases, there is a darker undercurrent haunting the narrative, but exactly what that is remains to be seen…
The genius of John Green lies in his ability to affect readers by writing about real-life people and real-life predicaments. His books are about so much more than they initially appear; they have inspiring qualities that tear at the readers’ emotions, whilst dually building their defences against the horrors of the world.
I am whole-heartedly in love with John Green! More accurately, I am in love with John Green’s mind. I am in love with the way he makes me think, and I am in love with the way he makes me feel. I am in love with the way he breaks my heart again and again and how I still keep running back for more.
And ‘Turtles All The Way Down’ appears to be one his most poignant stories yet.
An actual synopsis is still a closely-guarded secret, but Penguin has disclosed that this will involve a billionaire, Star Wars fan-fic, and a reptile from New Zealand. This will also traverse on the potentially triggering topic of mental illness, of which Mr. Green himself has struggled with.
“This is my first attempt to write directly about the kind of mental illness that has affected my life since childhood, so while the story is fictional, it is also quite personal.”
The obscure-sounding title refers to the cosmological idea that planet Earth is flat instead of circular and situated entirely on the back of a turtle. This turtle, in its turn, is situated on “turtles all the way down.” Green isn’t the first author to play with this belief, and it has featured in the fictional writing of Terry Pratchett and Dr. Seuss.
The released snippets of information have already gathered much online excitement, despite the four-month wait until the October 10th publication date.
