In his continued noble quest to increase the popularity of the sport of golf, Niall Horan has been named an ambassador to the Ryder Cup. Darren Clarke, captain of the European team, tweeted out the news this morning.
Delighted to welcome my friend @niallofficial to Team Europe as one of our ambassadors for the 2016 Ryder Cup. pic.twitter.com/ce6LL5a2iY

The Ryder Cup occurs every two years, last taking place in fall of 2014 in Scotland. Tweeting from his hotel room during One Direction’s Where We Are Tour, Niall was personally responsible for a third of the nearly two million tweets about the Cup, according to the Guardian.
In my room watching @rydercup ! C'mon @rydercupEUROPE ! #europe #usa #golf gona be a huge weekend of golf

This year’s Cup will be held at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota from September 30 to October 2. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a smattering of “new” fans of the sport in the crowd, drawn to the event by Niall’s presence—in fact, we have a feeling the Ryder Cup is banking on just that.
