We’re guessing Drake will have done a lot of celebrating this weekend as his single ‘One Dance’ has become the longest running U.K. number one single in the digital age.
After spending a whopping eleven consecutive weeks at number one, it has also become the joint fifth longest running number one in the history of the U.K. singles chart, selling over one million copies.
‘One Dance’ overtakes Rihanna and Jay-Z’s ‘Umbrella’ which spent ten weeks at number one in 2007, selling 355,000 copies during its stint. ‘Umbrella’ has now racked up an impressive 926,000 sales in the past nine years but, astonishingly, ‘One Dance’ has sold 1,082,545 copies in the past eleven weeks.
This feat has also helped the lead single from the Canadian’s latest album ‘VIEWS’ become the fastest selling single in the new digital age of streaming, beating Adele’s ‘Hello’.
The single has also surpassed the sales of the U.K.’s second longest number one single of all time, Wet Wet Wet’s ‘Love Is All Around’, which sold 1,001,228 copies during its fifteen week stint in 1994.
These achievements have also occurred in the U.S. where ‘VIEWS’ has sold over one million copies and held the number one position for seven weeks.’One Dance’ has topped the Billboard Singles Chart for six weeks.
