sadHAPPY (formerly known as Aaron Smith) has released his debut EP, Say Goodbye.
With his debut EP Say Goodbye, sadHAPPY blends raw emotions with sounds from electronic pop, dance and soul, paired with introspective lyrics that will give listeners a palette of vibes and moods, between ‘sad’ and ‘happy’.
The 5 track EP includes the previously released singles ‘America’ and ‘Dance Again’, the lead single ‘Say Goodbye’, ‘Love Me Like I Am Nothing’ and ‘Superlow’.
The lead single ‘Say Goodbye’ invites everyone to the dance. The dance-pop synth atmosphere with sadHAPPY’s yearning vocals is paired with the intense lyrics about refusing to break from a strong bond.
sadHAPPY debut single ‘America’ combines sadHAPPY’s soulful vocals with a shimmering, sun-kissed pop production that puts a twist on his bittersweet lyrics. ‘Dance Again’ combines again sadHAPPY soulful voice with melodic house beats.
With ‘Superlow’, sadHAPPY creates a trance anthem and on ‘Love Me Like I’m Nothing’, he sings about the push-and-pull of navigating a toxic relationship over stuttering synths and nocturnal house beats.
The EP Say Goodbye is also a milestone for sadHAPPY, following a string of recognitions from Apple Music’s Zane Lowe and BBC Radio 1’s Future Pop. The project was crafted by sadHAPPY over sessions scattered across Scotland, London and Los Angeles, with collaborators including James Carter (Meduza ‘Bad Memories’), Lewis Gardiner (Rika x Galantis), Ryan Lawrie (BTS) and Amanda Kongshaug (Zara Larsson).
Inspired by Calvin Harris, Bon Iver and Fred Again, sadHAPPY is the artist project of Scottish singer-songwriter Aaron Smith, who has opened for Ellie Goulding on tour. The name is inspired by the juxtaposition of life’s highs and lows, serving as a reminder to embrace both while working towards becoming the best version of yourself.
