After months of teasing, fans finally have the duet they have been waiting for, and it’s about damn time. On February 8th, Lizzo took to Instagram to share the exciting news of the song’s release, and the comments erupted with anticipation. Many were quick to dig up the cutest Lizzo & SZA “bestie” moments on social media.
The two powerhouse divas have been spotted together both inside and outside of the studio since last year, from attending Harry Styles Love on Tour alongside BTS to SZA giving Lizzo an adorable shoutout as she presented at the GRAMMYs.

Since November, fans have been impatiently waiting for the studio version of “Special” featuring the two artists. When the Special Tour stopped at The Forum in Los Angeles, California, Lizzo brought out SZA to sing the song with her, and fans went absolutely crazy.
The recorded track is everything we could have hoped for and more. It is a much more R&B-inspired track compared to some of Lizzo’s traditional “poppier” tracks. The remix opens with a smooth verse from SZA, the perfect compliment to the suave tempo created by classic horns, a head-bopping beat, and a bluesy bass. SZA’s angelic adlibs and lower register are an incredible addition to Lizzo’s stunningly commanding vocals.
On release day, Lizzo and SZA got on an Instagram live to chat all things “Special” (and even Taylor Swift). Lizzo fondly noted, “I’m just grateful we finally did it, you’re on it. This is just like a literal vibe between two friends.” Check out the full live below:
