All Time Low released their new single “Some Kind of Disaster” January 21 after taking a break in 2019. In the days leading up to and following the song’s premiere, fans took to Twitter to celebrate and analyze the return of Baltimore’s most famous pop punk group.

Hours before the single’s release, All Time Low teased a new YouTube video premiere set to drop at midnight, which didn’t go unnoticed.

“Some Kind of Disaster” premiered with a music video the band has been slowly hinting at over the last few months. One fan noticed the name tags in a picture All Time Low posted on their Instagram in November including all four band members: Alex Gaskarth, Jack Barakat, Rian Dawson and Zack Merrick.

As some fans made connections to content that the boys released over the last few months, others took to analyzing the artistic choices in the music video and lyrics.

All Time Low’s signature blue has appeared on album covers from Dirty Work and Future Hearts to the 10-year tribute, It’s Still Nothing Personal, to their 2009 album Nothing Personal. Even Young Renegade took on a red and blue color scheme in 2017.

“Some Kind of Disaster” mixed up the band’s aesthetic with a bright yellow, and ATL took on a new logo. Some fans shared theories of clever references to that new design within the music video as well as the lighting choices.

There are still several connections back to old eras within “Some Kind of Disaster,” though. Lyrics in the single reference past songs across multiple older albums.

Referencing liars, cynics, sinners, saints, losers and critics in the first line alone, “Some Kind of Disaster” ties into “Heroes” and “Dirty Laundry” as one fan pointed out. It also connects to “Get Down On Your Knees And Tell Me You Love Me” when Alex sings “Was it worth it? Was it perfect when you up and left me cynical?” in the Dirty Work single.

Don’t Panic: It’s Longer Now! gets a shoutout as well, with the opening line from “Canals” (“I am a critic”) finding a repeat in the new single.

Even with the extensive material squeezed into less than four minutes, the fandom’s excitement has taken on much more than just analyzing the new song.

The group used the music video’s description to send a message about their return. While the Young Renegades era has come to an end, All Time Low is back in action, and the Hustlers are celebrating in full force.

Excitement about the new single had All Time Low trending on Twitter at slot number six in less than three hours after its release. The music video hit top 20 for YouTube’s trending list as well.

Some fans boasted new tattoos with the sun logo attached to “Some Kind of Disaster” within less than a week of the song’s release.

Others have created digital fan art incorporating the band’s new look and themes from the music video, like this video portraying Alex in every outfit from the support group circle he sits with through the song.
