Ben Affleck’s directing skills return in ‘Live By Night’
A third and final trailer has been released for the Ben Affleck directed crime film ‘Live By Night’ that is sure to please fans of the genre and Affleck. Starring Affleck, Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller and Brendan Gleeson the film tells the story of Joe Coughlin (played by Affleck) a man who takes the wrong path in life after moving to Florida becoming a notorious gangster.
From his directorial debut ‘Gone Baby Gone’ Affleck has shown finesse in his craftsmanship and the way he is able to tell a well executed yet stunning narrative. ‘Live By Night’ looks very well like his best movie yet. That’s a huge statement to make I know, but from some of the stunning shots (seen above) to the excellent dialogue between characters (from a screenplay written solely by Affleck!) It’s hard not to get your hopes up.
From his previous films such as ‘Argo’ and ‘The Town’ Affleck has demonstrated he is very good at directing an action sequence. The second half of this trailer has showcased that yet again with brilliant shots of gun fire, car chases and explosions that don’t take away from the subtle grittiness of the trailer.
Following on from Affleck’s Best Picture win at the Oscars for his film ‘Argo’, could ‘Live By Night’ be a contender in the 2017 Oscars? There’s talk of another Best Picture and maybe even a Best Director win for Affleck.
‘Live By Night’ is released on Christmas day, just in time to make it eligible for the Oscar nominations and to gain those important holiday ticket sales. Let’s hope the film is as good as the final trailer suggests and our Christmas is blessed with a great movie.
