Review: Samsung Gear Fit 2 fitness tracker

0

Ever since my January dieting didn’t go well , I have been on a mission to fight the flab. In addition to cooking some pretty delicious healthy meals (I’m not just saying that because I cooked them), I have been going to the gym more. It’s been good getting myself into a routine again. For a while, I’ve been looking at getting a fitness tracker. There are so many around, and I have been doing loads of research into which is the best one.

No, really – I have. You know what it’s like: you end up reading loads of reviews, and you’re not sure which is for the best. After a lot of consideration (these things aren’t cheap you know), I opted for the Samsung Gear Fit 2.

The next thing I had to do was try and get my hands on one; this wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I could have ordered one through Amazon or other internet sites, but I wanted to actually see the product first and make a decision whether I wanted it. Then I discovered Argos supplied them. After waiting months for them to restock, they finally had one, and I bought it.

Fitness Features

As for exercise features, there’s not much the Samsung Gear Fit 2 doesn’t have. When I’m at the gym, I predominantly do cardio workouts, and they’re all here. If I want to go walking, running or even cycling, the options are here too. These features are also GPS-enabled and will show a map of where you’ve walked, distance, etc. I haven’t tried that out as of yet.

I never do lunges, crunches or squats, but now that there’s a guide on there as a prompt, I’ve had a go, and it’s pretty good. In addition to that, you can also measure your heart rate, too. When you’re carrying out any form of these exercises, the heart rate reader kicks in automatically.

I had originally downloaded quite a colourful watch face, you know – just because. The only thing was, I ended up having to charge the watch every day. It does recommend that you use a dark face and to reduce the screen brightness. Since doing that, I am charging the watch every 3 days, which is pretty good I reckon. If you’re looking for a watch face that is kind to your battery, I can definitely recommend The SoulofGear24H. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to charge. The charger is really neat and compact, too. The watch is safe and secure on the cradle due to the magnetic connection.

Accuracy

In terms of the pedometer, I can only assume it is accurate. However, the floor count is definitely NOT accurate. I climb the stairs loads of times in a day. After climbing the stairs maybe 4 or 5 times, when I’ve checked the tracker, it has only counted 1 if I’m lucky. As for calorie counting accuracy, again I’m not sure. Prior to purchasing the Samsung Gear Fit 2, I always made note of the calories burnt shown on the cardio machines. When I googled how accurate these were, apparently they aren’t at all. It’s all worked out on your weight, age and other factors. So whether or not the Gear Fit 2 does the same, who knows! All I do know is that the calories burnt on the Samsung Gear Fit 2 and the cardio machine are never the same.

Comfort

samsung gear fit 2The Samsung Gear Fit 2 comes in 2 sizes, small and large. At the time of purchasing it, there were only large ones available. I have smallish wrists so I need to wear this on the last but one notch. It’s still a bit loose but if I do it to the top notch it’s too tight. I had read on some reviews that people complain about the strap itself coming lose and them losing the watch. So far I haven’t had any problems with it coming off, and hopefully, it won’t happen to me. There are straps you can buy as an add-on if you’re not satisfied with it. The strap is made from a rubber material and is very comfortable and easy to clean. I wanted something light weight and something that wasn’t bulky – the Samsung Gear Fit checks both boxes.

Do I recommend?

Absolutely. I think it’s a really good. You can even connect it to other features which will allow you to receive social media notifications and let you know when someone has texted you. If someone is ringing you, it comes up on the face of the watch, too.

Although it is more expensive than some Fitbits (it’s £179/$179.99 just so you know), I’m pretty sure you get far more features on the Samsung Gear Fit 2. I’m glad that I saved my money and got this tracker. They are available in 3 colours – pink, blue and black but the black was the only option at Argos. I didn’t mind that as black goes with basically everything. 5 stars from me!

If you’re looking to buy this fitness tracker, you can get it here in the UK and here in the US.
